The EPA has a vacancy for a Scientific Officer I (Level 3) Behavioural Scientist. Under the Climate Action Plan (2019), citizen engagement is being driven through the National Dialogue on Climate Action (NDCA). The EPA’s role within the NDCA is to provide the evidence base for understanding public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behaviour, and the underlying psychological and cultural factors that influence the public. The EPA is now developing a National Climate Change Behavioural Insights and Implementation Unit. The knowledge and evidence from this project will be a resource and provide an advisory service for all national, regional and local stakeholders - including Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC), Department of Taoiseach and the Climate Action Regional Offices (CAROs) - by providing the data, tools and techniques that allow for effective public engagement as trends shift and evolve over time. The appointee will be a member of a team of staff in the EPA Climate Services section supporting - via professional, analytical, technical and corporate services - the functions of the Government’s National Climate Dialogue activities. The successful candidate must hold a relevant degree (NFQ Level 8) in a behavioural, sociological, political or social sciences discipline with a minimum of 5 years work experience with behavioural/social change as a prominent element of this experience.
