The person appointed will be a member of a team of staff in the EPA’s Emissions Statistics team within the Office of Environmental Sustainability. The Emissions Statistics Team has responsibility for a range of activities, including meeting UN and EU statutory deadlines for submission of Emissions Inventories, Projections and Policies & Measures in line with international guidelines. The person appointed will have a key role in developing and managing spatially disaggregated greenhouse gas and air pollutant data and associated spatial activity data. This will include maintaining and producing outputs from an EPA spatial emissions database and working on the development and subsequent maintenance of the EPA’s spatial Land-use map being developed for Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry emission and removals reporting. The duties of a Scientific Officer in the EPA relate to all aspects of gathering, assessing and reporting data on the environment, including research, liaising with and co-ordinating relevant activities with other organisations at local, national and international levels and developing information systems for dissemination of environmental information. The successful candidate must hold a relevant degree (NFQ Level 8) in a numerate discipline with a minimum of 3 years spatial analysis experience.
