The Water Advisory Unit (WAU) of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has the role of leading on Ireland’s Water Framework Directive planning process including overseeing the preparation and coordination of implementation of river basin management plans and associated programmes of measures as well as compliance with the requirements of the Drinking Water and Urban Waste Water Treatment Directives and managing related EU Infringements. Reporting to the Senior Adviser (WAU), the Water Scientific Policy Adviser – Grade I will be assigned (initially) to focus on integrated catchment management and the infrastructure aspects of the Water Framework Directive planning. S/he will work in the area of water quality primarily on the implementation of the Water Framework Directive. The successful candidate will: • Hold a qualification at minimum Level 8 (honours) degree on the National Framework of Qualifications in Engineering or Science or the equivalent; • Have since qualifying, recent relevant and practical experience (a minimum of 5 years) in water quality management; • Have applied working knowledge of relevant national and EU legislation.
