The Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government has responsibility for the sustainable and efficient delivery of well-planned homes, water sector policy and effective local government. The Water and Marine Advisory Units provide professional scientific and technical advice in relation to policy formulation for the water and marine environment. The following significant vacancies have arisen: Principal Adviser, Water. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advice on matters relating to the water environment. S/he will be a key member of the management team and will lead a multidisciplinary team, to provide advice on specific policy areas for programmes associated with EU Directives, investment in water services and Climate Change Adaptations Plans. Principal Adviser, Marine. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advice on matters relating to the marine environment. S/he will be a key member of the management team and will lead a multidisciplinary team, to provide advice on the formulation and implementation of national, EU and international policies and legislation for the marine environment. In the case of both advertised positions, successful candidates will report to the Assistant Secretary, Water Division. Candidates must hold a qualification of at least Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in a scientific or engineering discipline and have at least seven years post-qualification experience in significant scientific or engineering work.
