Clinical Nurse Manager/Staff NurseOn behalf of our client, Gemma Hayes Recruitment now seek to recruit a Clinical Nurse Manager/Staff Nurse in a Care of the Elderly setting based in Co. Wexford. The Clinical Nurse Manager/Staff Nurse has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating and managing activity and resources with the clinical area. The Successful Candidate will be responsible for• Directing, organising and supervising nursing staff to ensure that effective patient care is provided and that quality standards are maintained. • Establishing effective communication, to encourage, train and develop the team and provide opportunities for group discussion. • Supervising arrangements for resident’s admissions and discharges. • Supervise, control and administer medications and drugs and ensure safe-keeping and proper storage. • Ensuring the Drug/Medication Rounds are carried out at their specified times and as laid down in the Policies & Procedures Manual. • Ensuring that Care Notes and Care Plans are recorded accurately in a timely manner and that records are signed and dated. • Observation and monitoring the physical and mental well-being of residents including condition of skin, pressure areas, incontinence and injuries. Try to solve problems and ensure appropriate treatment is given as outlined in the resident’s care plan. • Ensuring that the provision of care includes, where required, making contact with the appropriate GP and that any medication and/or treatment prescribed is administered as soon as possible. • Supervision and serving at resident meal times, feeding requirements and delegate tasks as required. • Ensuring that high standards of hygiene are maintained, that equipment is kept in a satisfactory condition and stored correctly. • Planning and allocation of staff with appropriate staff numbers, skill mix and levels of experience in such a way that they will meet the clinical management workload and ensure that continuity of care and safety. • Arranging fair and accurate duty rotas and co-ordinate holiday plans, to keep record of monthly hours and overtime records, to assist the financial department with establishing the payroll. • Ensuring that health and safety codes and procedures, Infection Control Policies, codes of conduct and relevant legislation are adhered to. • Conducting/supervising induction programmes for all new employees and to participate in all in house training. • Encouraging staff on use and upkeep of equipment by developing economical habits and by learning to manage within resources. • Maintainence of nursing records, ensuring that all documentation is maintained to a high standard (spot checks on care plans and other records) as well as reporting details of accidents, incidents and unusual occurrences. • Collaboratation with service users, family, carers and other staff, in treatment/care planning and in the provision of support and advice. • Maintainence of nursing records in accordance with local service and professional standards. • Assistance in the development, implementation and review of all policies, procedures, quality management programmes and guidelines, incorporating research and evidence based best practice. • Ensuring that all standards and procedures are in line with the Health Information and Quality Authority Standards (HIQA. • Involvement in Human resource activities such as: being part of the interview panel, addressing employee problems, providing learning opportunities for staff and being familiar with company’s grievance and disciplinary procedures. • Active participation in development programmes and maintain nursing practice skills. Knowledge and Skills Required• Registered Nurse with a full ABA registration. • Demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development. • Minimum 3 years out of the last 6 years in an Aged care setting. • Up to date knowledge of HIQA standards. • Have an excellent organisation and communication skills with excellent verbal and written command of the English Language. • Be a team player, flexible and adaptable. • Have the ability to lead and supervise a team of staff, have the confidence and ability to manage disciplinary issues and report upwards as necessary. • Have the ability to teach, impart knowledge and identify learning, development and training needs. • Be thorough and efficient in all dealings with matters relating to the company and nursing home. • Have the ability to earn trust and establish solid relationships with residents, relatives, colleagues and management. • Be confident and competent in investigation/report writing skills. • Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role. • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
